Let’s get lost in Venice…
Getting lost in Venice is the whole point isn’t it?
Well we achieved that with-in the first 10 minutes.
I knew our hotel wasn’t too far from the train station, and I had mistakenly thought that we would be able to find our way there from the station without much trouble… then we discovered that we couldn’t find the street name we were looking for on any map and the only people around seemed to be other tourists looking just as confused as us. So we decided to just get on the next water taxi and hope that we spotted our hotel… and we did, but we felt a bit silly, as walking across the bridge would of got us there quicker! haha.
We dropped our bags off and then got straight back on the water taxi for a scenic cruise along the Grand Canal. Even on the standard water taxi this was every bit as lovely as I had imagined.
Next stop on our list… all the usual tourist suspects, starting with St. Marks Square. By this time I was well past ready to eat something so we just picked the best looking place and sat down to eat, I don’t know if it was because I was starving or if it was actually a damn good pizza, but I could of gone second and third helpings!
Stop and take a moment…
It didn’t take us all that long to realize the tourist map we were holding was pretty much useless for anything other than general directions… the thing didn’t even have street names on it.
We only had the one day in Venice (and the morning of the next day) so it really felt like we had to make the most of it, and I feel pretty happy that we did just that, ticking of everything on our list and some.
